Plastique
When considering this Generator digital reissue, I was faced with a dilemma.
I consider this one of the crown jewels of the early Generator catalogue. The very first release by my old friend Sean Deason, under his Freq moniker, and one of my favorite tracks by him, ever. Moody and melancholic. Real Detroit Techno. The problem? The DAT master is long gone. Neither I nor Deason himself have it anymore.
So I figured to pull it off of a wack 30 year old vinyl rip and have it "restored," but there are limits even with the most up-to-date tools available. The levels are up to 2023 standards, but you can still hear the vinyl pops, which could not be removed without bringing down the overall quality of the track.
The original plan was to release it for the last Bandcamp Friday. But I pulled the plug at the last minute to reconsider. I could not in good conscience charge money for a product that I felt was not up to standard. But I really like the track, though. And wanted to give it life again.
So here's my compromise: here it is as a free (or name your own price) download for all you old-school Detroit completists and Generator enthusiasts, and a gift for supporting me (and Sean) all these years. Everybody wins in this scenario. Hope you can ignore the slight flaws in the sound, but what do you want for free?
